A ChatGPT Story-Feeling Co-Intelligence

As the year 2024 came to a close, I finally found time to prepare for my coaching certification exam. However, I quickly realized I desperately needed practice coaching real clients. After coaching my family members and running out of volunteers, an idea struck me: why not try practicing with ChatGPT?

Here’s how it started:

I asked ChatGPT, “Hi, I need to practice my coaching skills for my final exam for my coaching certification. Can you help me with that?”

ChatGPT responded:
“Of course! I’d be happy to help. What specific skills or scenarios would you like to practice?”

I continued, “I want to simulate a final exam. I need a client. In this session, I’ll ask you open-ended questions, and I hope you can come up with a topic and help me proceed.”

ChatGPT replied,
“Got it! I’ll act as your client. Let’s pick a topic: perhaps a career challenge or work-life balance. Once we start, feel free to ask open-ended questions, and I’ll respond like a real client would. How does that sound?”

The session lasted 18 minutes and went incredibly well. ChatGPT was such a clever "client," and we effortlessly completed a full coaching session practice! It was surprisingly effective.

Reflecting on Technology and Co-Intelligence

As someone who studied computer science after the year 2000, I’ve always considered the widespread use of the Internet as something almost innate—it feels as though it has always been there. AI, on the other hand, feels like an entirely different leap in evolution. It has grown from a distant concept and innovation to something we use in our daily lives.

To illustrate, here’s a diagram that shows how popular AI concepts are interconnected.

Even though ChatGPT can be explained through technical frameworks, the feeling of co-intelligence it provides is far more profound than any other technology. While some argue that AI is just another machine created by humans, I see it differently. I feel fortunate to live in an era where this level of co-intelligence exists. Just like this ChatGPT story, who knows what would be the next innovative use case?
